One of my first jobs out of college as an assistant in the Capitol Records Film & TV department was basically making playlists for $14 an hour. AKA, my dream job! I got to dig through the Capitol archives, be the first to hear new releases, and work with our marketing department on seasonal mixes to reintroduce our catalog to music supervisors across the world. In my years working in music, I watched executives debate the art of the sequence, the perfect arc of a playlist, and how “new” a song needs to be to be classified as a new release. A decade later, I’ve lost some of the science in my playlist making, but I can’t help but pull together my favorite songs for every season - whether they are “new” new, new to me, or favorite classics.
Here’s my attempt to more formalize this process! I hope you enjoy our Paper Planes Spring Playlist, let me know in the comments what your favorite song is! And hey, thanks for listening.
